The Other Side
of Hope
CONCEPT
The Other Side of Hope is a film that uses parallel stories between a refugee and an ordinary Finnish man to explore the tension between societal indifference and personal kindness. With minimalist dialogue, restrained acting, and stylized compositions, the film leaves a lasting emotional impact.
The tone of the film is quiet yet powerful, with the director’s signature black humour providing the audience space to reflect on what it means to be a decent human being. Quietly powerful and morally resonant, it is a modern fable for our uncertain times.
In this title sequence, I focus on the journey
of Khaled, using the world inside the duffel bag to represent his experiences over time. Different layers represent shifting identities and perspectives. As the journey progresses,
he ultimately reaches a nest of memory, dissolving into the inevitability of nothingness.
